Try Line.  Its made by Naver, a Japanese company that has decided to compete with Microsoft-owned Skype.  It comes in all your favorite phone platforms too–iOS, Windows and Android.  Besides supporting free calls and text messages, one of the highlights with Line is its expansive stickers and emoticons. With over 250 of them, now you can feel a little japanese as you message your friends.
